Agoraphobia vs. social anxiety?
Hi--I certainly cannot diagnose you, put it sounds more like panic disorder, if you are afraid of getting panic attacks.A panic attack often begins abruptly, peaks within 10 minutes and lasts about half an hour. But panic attacks have many variations. They may last hours or, on rare occasions, up to a day. You may feel fatigued and worn out after a panic attack subsides.

Signs and symptoms may include:

Rapid heart rate

Sweating

Trembling

Shortness of breath and hyperventilation

Chills

Hot flashes

Nausea

Abdominal cramping

Chest pain

Headache

Dizziness

Faintness

Tightness in your throat

Trouble swallowing

A sense of impending death

Other health problems — such as an impending heart attack, an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism) or drug withdrawal — can cause similar signs and symptoms.

*****You are right: People who experience panic attacks often are affected by other mental health conditions, including depression, fear of public places (agoraphobia) and social phobia.*****
Reply:its not social anxiety. thats all i can say bout dis.
Reply:I think it's doctor time for you. Hope you feel better after you see a doctor!
Reply:Sounds like social anxiety, since you don't get anxious just by leaving the house. Of course, the etiology of all phobias are the same. Phobias are classified as anxiety disorders. Usually anxiety that has some other and yet unidentified source. That anxiety is projected or displaced onto some other object or situation.
Reply:An agoraphobic is a person who's afraid to go out side for fear of having a panic attack in public and having to deal with the humiliation of that. As long as you can still go out side than you're probably suffering from a severe form of social anxiety. It can be treated and a lot of the times they are able to do it with behavior modifications instead of medications. You should check it out and see if it would help you.
Reply:If you can go out in your backyard without fear then you don't have agoraphobia...that is a fear of the outdoors in general. It's not of going to a mall or something, it's of leaving your house to take out the garbage, to mow your lawn, to walk your dog in your own yard etc. Social anxiety is fear of places with people.
Reply:Agoraphobia is fear of the market place in general. The best think to do is see a professional. Go to agoraphobia.ws for so intresting information that might help you out. I will pray for you and don't give up.
