Bi Polar Disorder?

I have been diagnosed as bi polar disorder. Well, I will get so sick to my stomach (nauseated) and start sweating and get light headed like i'm about to pass out. I told this to my general doctor and he said he's done all the test he can do and it's mental. I personally think it's my nerves, as the doctor says could be my nerves as well. He just tells me I need to go see a stupid psychiatrist. I don't need someone to talk to, I just need my medicine and i'll be fine. But I am losing alot of weight with the nausea thing because its getting to where I am making myself sick. I am scared and don't know what to do. Has this happened to anyone?

Thanks!!!!

Bi Polar Disorder?
Psychiatrist........... Meds can only do so much.... you need to talk it out too.
Reply:Stress will make you sick and you'll lose weight. I also suffer from depression, but not bi polar. My dad is bi polar however.

You may think you dont need to talk to someone, but seriously, I think you should. We keep telling my dad to go and he wont, but he's not getting any better by not going. And if you go talk to someone, they will most likely give you meds to help with this disease...at least try it out.

Good luck
Reply:you sound like my ex girlfriend, she too was very unhappy with being referred to a psychiatrist, however it would have been the best thing for her. Did she go? of course not, because it was not the answer she wanted. It may not be the answer you want either, but i would say give it a shot, she may be able to straighten you out and get you back on the right track.
Reply:Bipolar disorder (manic-depressive illness) is a mood disorder, which means that the symptoms are disturbances or abnormalities of mood. Major depression is a more common illness, the symptoms of which are mainly those of 'low' mood. Bipolar disorder involves episodes of both serious mania and depression. The person's mood swings from excessively 'high' and irritable, to sad and hopeless, and then back again, with periods of normal mood in between. Different from normal mood states of happiness and sadness, symptoms of manic-depressive illness can be severe and life threatening. However, because many artists, musicians and writers have suffered from bipolar illness, the effect of the illness has sometimes been trivialised, and regarded in some way as beneficial for artistic creativity. In fact, for those afflicted with the illness, it is extremely distressing and disruptive.

Bipolar disorder is the third most common mood disorder after major depression and dysthymic disorder. It affects about 1% of adults during their lifetime. Symptoms typically begin during adolescence or early adulthood, and continue to recur throughout life. Men and women are equally likely to develop this disabling illness. The consequences of the illness can be devastating, and may include marital break-ups, unemployment, alcohol and drug abuse. Bipolar illness is often complicated by co-occurring alcohol or substance abuse. Without effective treatment, bipolar illness leads to suicide in nearly 20% of cases.

Effective treatments are available that greatly reduce the suffering caused by bipolar disorder, and can usually prevent its devastating complications. However, bipolar disorder is often not recognised by the patient, relatives, friends, or even physicians. People with bipolar disorder may suffer needlessly without proper treatment, for years or even decades. Also, many patients do not respond to at least one drug, and many show no response to several. This means that combination treatment is often the rule because a combination of different drugs with different methods of action can be more effective wiithout increasing the risk of side effects. Lithium is still the most used drug overall in mania, but mood stabilising anticonvulsants are also widely used.

if u take meds go to the doctor then don't worry and pray for the best

good luck
Reply:The best place to get your medications for bi-polar is from a Psychiatrist. He/She can give you the proper medications for your Bi-Polar, and address your other symptoms. Probably add a medication for the nausea. Most Psychiatrist don't really do a lot of talking about your problem that is what a therapist is for. I used to work at a mental health clinic, and I found that when you go to a specialized clinic you receive better care than from a general practitioner.

Take care %26amp; Good Luck, Hope you feel better soon

Reply:Not sure what you are taking, but I was on Effexor for a while and it was HORRIBLE. It made me really sick, and it literally took me 4 months to wean off of it.

If it's not the drugs you are taking, then I agree it could be psychological. It sounds kind of like anxiety disorder.

If you don't want to go talk to someone, then maybe you should think about doing yoga, it really helps to reduce stress and help you feel more balanced.
Reply:You need to see a psychiatrist in order to get medication. Believe me, they won't want to talk with you much. If they think you need therapy, they'll refer you to a therapist or psychologist.

Bipolar disorder is a chemical imbalance in the neurotransmitters of the brain. It's no different than having diabetes. Only medication can control that, so take your doctor's advice and see a psychiatrist now--only a psychiatrist can prescribe the necessary medications and monitor their results properly. Bipolar disorder only gets worse if left untreated. Good luck to you.
