OCD
Does obessive compulsive disorder cause you to sweat a lot?
as i know, no! it can't be a direct reason. if the diagnosis of OCD is true some related resons should considered. and if you have doubt in this diagnosis maybe some organic diseases should rule out first(like hyperthyroidism,...). however we know OCD in some routine sign and symptoms :
Patients with OCD present with persistent thoughts, ideas, and images that intrude into conscious awareness, are recognized as a product of one's mind, and are perceived as senseless and intrusive. Commonly these obsessions have a theme that a small oversight will result in inconceivable catastrophe. Other common themes are contamination, a need for ordering things, aggressive impulses, and sexual imagery.
Compulsions are urges or impulses for repetitive intentional behavior performed in a stereotyped manner (eg, touching, counting, arranging) in an attempt to alleviate the anxiety which most frequently results from the obsessions. Often these behaviors are believed to help defend the patient and others from potential harm. Such behaviors may cause minor physical signs that can be recognized by the physician. As examples, the compulsive hand washer may present with a serious dermatitis, the skin-picker may develop dermatologic lesions, or the patient with trichotillomania will have alopecia. Other behaviors can be disabling by virtue of the time required to perform them. As with many anxiety disorders, symptoms worsen at times of stress.
Quality of life is considerably decreased in patients with OCD due to the shame, distress, and time consumed in carrying out compulsive behaviors. Interpersonal relationships suffer, with resulting interference in family relationships, friendships, and academic and work achievement. The potentially devastating consequences of OCD were illustrated in a study which found that 13 percent of patients had attempted suicide secondary to OCD symptoms .
The diagnostic criteria for OCD suggest that the obsessions and compulsions are time consuming, cause significant distress, or interfere with daily routine, social, or occupational functioning .
However, a correct diagnosis is often difficult to make because many of the symptoms of OCD overlap with generalized anxiety disorder and major depression, or OCD may coexist with these disorders. One study reported a 17-year gap on average between the onset of symptoms and appropriate treatment for OCD, due in part to the difficulty in establishing the diagnosis and to the reluctance of these patients to seek help . This gap is expected to decrease with increasing media attention and increased diagnostic sophistication among the medical and psychiatric community.
Reply:That could be anxiety
Reply:i have OCD and cant say i notice that sweat any more than usual, the only thing i can say is that when i go on a mad cleaning frenzy then i obviously do sweat more cuz i clean non stop for 10 hours plus!!!hope that helps.
Reply:Only if your compulsion is a strenuous activity.
Reply:Having known a couple of people who suffered this disorder, i believe the answer to your question is yes. They both perspired alot and especially around their top lip.
Reply:if you're an obsesive compulsive sweater then yes.
Reply:There isn't a correlation between sweating and OCD- having OCD doesn't cause you to sweat. However, if you are significantly anxious related to the need to complete your rituals or compulsions, it would make sense that you might sweat more because of your anxiety.
Reply:I think it does because it causes a person to feel very anxious, which in turn leads to sweating
Reply:I have very OCD but do not sweat much at all, in fact I probably sweat far less than average as I use a lot of antipersirant.
Reply:Sweating has no direct connection to OCD in and of itself. Profuse sweating is not considered part of the diagnostic criteria in any fashion. However, OCD is an anxiety disorder, and thus many people sweat as a result of increased anxiety and stress. In other words, sweating is a personal response to anxiety, and if one has OCD, that person is more likely to experience anxiety in his/her everyday life.
Reply:I suffer OCD but I can't say I sweat as a result. I guess the stress you may put yourself under could cause you to sweat?
Reply:I would think so, if you are that obsessive you will burn a lot of energy, hence sweating a lot.
Reply:It is unlikely that OCD itself would cause sweating, but the anxiety that accompanies OCD could cause excess sweating. See your GP %26amp;/or a well-qualified psychologist or hypnotherapist to sort out the causes of your anxiety and to reduce the symptoms. It may be possible to treat the OCD also however, OCD can be difficult to treat - it may take a while.
Reply:no but wanking dos and if you don't **** your properly dieing
Reply:yeah sometimes
Reply:It could be a result of anxiety (quite a common component of OCD), which causes the glands to produce more stress.
However, if you dont feel its related (or regardless) you should see your doctor. Although its harmless there are medications that can help eliminate excess sweating if due to gland issues
