Hi. I was born with a mental illness called Social Anxiety Disorder, it was inherited by my mom or dad, through genes or something, lately its been killing me cause I don't know what to do when I grow up. The illness is where I feel like people are looking at me and I feel extremely nervous, its a psychatric disorder or something... I wish i wasn't born with it, feel like I havn't got a fair chance at life and just want to be normal for once... I'm only 16 and doing fairly good in school I think i'll be transfering to a University.. Like UCI, but I don't know what type of ocupation suits me, cause i'm always afraid and nervous around people feel like they are looking at me, i sweat and everything. I don't know whats a good paying job for me, a good enviroment I can work in and still be happy. Any suggestions please?
Help me please? Job? I wanna kill myself =(?
i have that too. i dont have it badly but, i still get that feeling where everyone looks at you and judges you. i wont talk to anyone unles they talk to me first. but i made myself once get a job working in the public. i worked at a shoe store and i had to greet every person that walked in. and it was super hard at first, but i just made myself. sometimes you just have to make yourself, and it helps .. a lot! i also starting out with my first job, i worked at a daycare turning into a pre school teacher. i didnt get that nervous feeling from kids. so i loved my job. lol anyways i hope this helps atleast a little
Reply:ME too but pray like me and dont kill urself im doing better after ihave been praying.I know just how u feel ur not the only one
Reply:Do not ever presume to kill Yourself...
THIS world is overrun by creatures who will literally LEAP at that chance.
Reply:I used to have the same exact problem. Then I got a job at a very busy upbeat restaurant where you'll get fired if you aren't smiling and friendly all the time. The entire time i worked there i constantly got nervous and sweaty and screwed up, but forcing myself into those situations as embarrassing as they were helped me to overcome it a little. It's all in the mindset. Change how you think and force yourself to not care what others think. It takes a long while, but it'll get better.
I'd say work with animals, like at the zoo or aquarium or dog pound or wild park something that has to do with the outdoors and the environment. Computer jobs are boring, but you don't have to deal with people too much although you still have moderate contact with them and a lot with supervisors, but you could do it if you don't mind sitting in a cubicle all day staring at a screen 40 hrs. a week. You can also become a mail man/lady. You get good exercise and you have no contact with people, you just listen to your ipod and drop off mail.
Reply:Hey, I just wanted to tell you that shyness can be overcome. It isn't just a genetic trait that is unchangeable. Several people become shy at a certain time in their lives and then grow out of it. Maybe seeing a psychologist or therapist would be helpful.
As far as picking the right major, there is a good book called pathfinders, but it is pretty long. It has a lot of excercises, and some have to do w/personality- introversion vs. extroversion, etc. There a career outlook handbook that is online for free that has descriptions of different careers w/the training necessary, wages, etc.
Don't give up!
Reply:hi
my brother is bi polar and he has those same feelings and no mater what it's just how you feel and think. but you are way ahead you know something is wrong i would think computer programing, you do deal with people but not everyday or go into the field of helping people understand and deal with day to day functions in mental illness.
but be strong you are here for a reason and loved by those around you and it sounds like you are a strong person so do not give up
Reply:First of all, don't think you are alone. There are many people who feel the same as you. Second, it is treatable so that you can learn to live without the pain. This website explains about it and about how it can be treated.

Your detail suggests to me that you haven't yet seen a doctor or psychiatrist to discuss it properly, so you don't yet have a proper diagnosis. Self diagnosis is dangerous because it can cause more worry and fear which do not do anything to help! Please do try to discuss your feelings with a psychiatrist. I can guarantee that just talking about it with someone who understands will help you feel much easier and accepting of yourself.
Finally, don't think of yourself as having an illness. Try to think of yourself as a well person who has feelings which are special to you (but very like the way that many other people feel, too). In choosing a job, you should always look for the things that you do best and are strong at and build on those. That way you will be able to contribute something unique and enjoy your life to the fullest.
Reply:If you are fair dinkum, I would suggest that you learn website designing.
Without putting too much into it, when I was 23 I was diagnosed with Agoraphobia. This is a condition where I found myself not wanting to leave my home.
I have since been working online, and operate websites such as http://www.visitmy.com.au , http://www.888casino.com.au and http://www.visitme.com.au
Working at home has enabled me to work my own hours, and provided me with a fairly decent income.
I often think to myself that perhaps I wouldn't have what I have now had it not been for my condition. Check out my house at http://www.myownwebsite.com.au and please, I have not updated the website for several months.
Good Luck.
Reply:Have you gotten professional help with the anxiety ? You may be surprised at all the available help. Don't think you have to live with this. That is a mistake. You can overcome it. Be positive.
Go take yoga lessons . That is a first step.
Next take judo or karate lessons.
There are alternative methods to help your anxiety. You need to free yourself .
