Low WBC, High Mono?

Hi,

My 9 year old has had abnormal CBCs for the last three years. One doctor tried to assure me that maybe this was just 'normal' for him. He always has a low WBC and high Monocytes. In his most recent bloodwork the WBC is lower and the Mono is higher. He has a lot of other medical issues to include a presumed metabolic disorder. He is easily fatigued (could be metabolic), bruises fairly easily, and does sweat at night although not always.

What would you do? Would you try to get past the PCM to a Hematolgist? Is there another specialist you would try to see? I have a metabolic specialist in another city, but it will take him probably a week to get back to me.

Low WBC, High Mono?
Would depend; how low is it? What is the differential? You say the Mono's are creeping up? Would suggest letting a Hematologist look at it to see what is going on. A low white count somtimes can point to viral.
Reply:I'd find someone else.

Good luck....
